Set clear expectations
People do their best work when the outcome, priorities and boundaries are understood.
About · Sam Lylak
Equally comfortable leading a team, presenting an idea or getting hands-on to solve a practical problem.

01 · The short version
I work across operations, people and technology: understanding business problems, mapping how work happens and helping implement practical improvements.
My background spans team leadership, sales, customer service, marketing, reporting and hands-on project work. That range helps me connect stakeholder needs with the reality of day-to-day operations.
I use AI and technology as delivery tools. I plan the problem, requirements and experience, then use AI or Codex assistance where it helps build and test a solution. I do not present that work as traditional full-stack development.
02 · How I lead
I believe capable people should have room to manage their own work, with clear direction and support when they need it.
People do their best work when the outcome, priorities and boundaries are understood.
I prefer guidance and trust over micromanagement, with support available when it is needed.
Understanding what is happening on the ground makes delegation better and decisions more useful.
When something needs to get done, I take responsibility for finding a practical way forward.
Resilience in practice
My first triathlon came in the same year I moved from 82kg to 100kg, the first time I had reached triple digits in bodyweight. At 100kg, I placed in the top five of the over-95kg category.
On a separate occasion, I ran 36 kilometres without specific run training because I wanted to understand how far I could push myself when the easier option was to stop.
I do not treat those experiences as shortcuts or bravado. They are reminders that discipline, mental strength and a willingness to continue matter most after the initial enthusiasm has gone. That same persistence shapes how I approach difficult work.
03 · What keeps me curious
Different subjects, same curiosity. I like understanding how things work, why people make the decisions they do and how things can be made better. I want to work around capable people I can learn from, contribute to and continue developing alongside.
